The Precision Oncology Screening Platform Enabling Clinical Trials (PrOSPeCT)

PrOSPeCT is Omico's landmark national precision oncology initiative and the largest cancer genomics initiative in Australia. PrOSPeCT provides equitable access to comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) and identifies potential matches to biomarker-led clinical trials and therapies for Australians with advanced, incurable or poor prognosis cancers, regardless of where they live across the country. Delivered through a nationally coordinated network since its launch in March 2023, PrOSPeCT brings together patients, clinicians, hospitals, laboratories, researchers, industry partners, governments and supporters to expand access to precision oncology, generate real-world data, accelerate research and improve cancer care.

What PrOSPeCT aims to achieve:

Improve options and outcomes for Australians with advanced, incurable and poor prognosis cancers. Expand equitable access to cutting-edge precision oncology for people with unmet need, providing comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) and helping identify potential matches to novel biomarker-dependent treatments.

Generate evidence for change.Build clinical, genomic, treatment and outcomes evidence to support research, policy and the integration of precision oncology into routine care.

Strengthen national capability. Grow Australia’s precision oncology expertise and capacity across testing, trials, data, research and clinical implementation.

Drive investment, growth and innovation. Our national screening platform strengthens Australia’s position as a leading cancer research hub by attracting global trials and investment, creating high-value jobs, and generating new opportunities for research scientists involved in genomics, clinical trials and diagnostics.

Generate savings in health care costs. PrOSPeCT is expected to generate considerable savings for the healthcare system by helping avoid health interventions, including medicines, tests and additional hospital costs.

Support

PrOSPeCT is made possible through investment and collaboration across the public and private sectors, with support from the Australian Government, NSW Government, industry and philanthropic partners committed to improving outcomes for Australians with cancer.

Key milestones

  • 2016-2023 | MoST
Omico’s pioneering Molecular Screening and Therapeutics (MoST) study laid the foundation for PrOSPeCT. Involving ~8,300 participants, it established the evidence, infrastructure and partnerships that enabled national precision oncology delivery.
  • 2023–2025 | PrOSPeCT 1.0
Supported by Australian Government, NSW Government and industry investment, PrOSPeCT received 23,000 patient referrals for comprehensive genomic profiling and treatment matching.
  • 2026–2029 | PrOSPeCT 2.0
With additional Australian Government support, PrOSPeCT continues to expand access to comprehensive genomic profiling and treatment matching, supporting 25,000 additional patient referrals through to 2028/29.
