Omico expands access to unique, real-world data offering to advance precision oncology research, innovation and patient outcomes

2 June 2026 – Omico is expanding its contribution to the national precision oncology ecosystem with the launch of a new real-world data (RWD) initiative designed to advance cancer research, clinical development and future innovations in precision cancer care.

Built from Australia’s largest prospectively consented precision oncology dataset (more than 20,000 records), the initiative forms part of Omico’s broader strategy to create a sustainable and equitable precision oncology model in Australia.

Omico’s integrated real-world dataset, developed through its national precision oncology programs, combines genomic, clinical and outcomes data associated with advanced cancer diagnoses. The dataset will continue to grow significantly following the Government’s recent investment supporting access through to 2028/29.

Based on this unique dataset, Omico has developed a suite of high-quality RWD offerings, designed to help industry and research partners:

  • Better understand biomarker-defined patient populations
  • Improve clinical trial design and feasibility
  • Generate higher-quality real-world evidence
  • Accelerate precision oncology development
  • Support more informed treatment and access decisions

Participants in Omico’s precision oncology programs have consented to the use of their data in a deidentified and aggregated way to support research and future advances in cancer care.

Revenue generated through industry collaborations will be reinvested into Omico’s not-for-profit mission, supporting continued patient access to advances in precision oncology and helping build a more sustainable national model for personalised cancer care.

Ian Black, Omico CEO said: “Our responsibility is to ensure that every investment Omico receives delivers meaningful outcomes for patients.

“Diversifying Omico’s revenue streams is an important part of ensuring the organisation remains sustainable and able to continue scaling access to precision oncology for Australians who need it most.

“Omico has always operated with a unique funding model, combining both public and private investments. While we are grateful for the recent commitment from the Australian Government, continuing to diversify revenue streams remains critically important to sustaining the trajectory of our programs.

“Funding generated through these real-world data collaborations will help us continue expanding access to precision oncology and reinvest in the long-term impact of our programs.”

Omico Founder and Chief Science and Strategy Officer, Professor David Thomas, said integrated real-world clinical, genomic and outcomes data is becoming increasingly important in precision oncology.

“As cancer care becomes increasingly biomarker-driven, the ability to generate meaningful evidence in smaller patient populations becomes more challenging and more important,” Professor Thomas said.

“Precision oncology is evolving in real time, and to guide it responsibly we need data that reflects diverse patient populations and real clinical care. Our real-world data can add significant value to advancing precision oncology research, development, clinical decision-making and health system planning.”

Omico Chief Data Officer, Ronald Chan, said the RWD offering had been shaped through several years of supporting real-world data and evidence-generation projects for partners.

“We have developed this initiative around the need for practical insights into precision oncology, from population-level insights through to advanced analytics including real-world comparator analyses,” Dr Chan said.

“Our goal is to help partners move more efficiently from research questions to patient outcomes by providing clearer evidence and more confidence in decision-making. Ultimately, our vision is for these insights to contribute to better treatments, better evidence and improved care for people affected by cancer.”

About Omico

Omico is a not-for-profit, independent organisation providing Australians diagnosed with incurable cancers access to a proven, cutting-edge approach known as precision oncology. We translate the latest scientific innovations into meaningful advances in clinical care, health policy and system reform, ensuring world-leading science delivers real-world benefits for patients. We unite Australia’s leading cancer institutes, researchers, clinicians, industry partners and government to improve outcomes for people with incurable, advanced or poor-prognosis cancers. By fast-tracking molecular profiling, biomarker-led clinical trials and patient enrolment across the country, Omico is enabling access to next-generation treatments for Australians who need them most.

Precision oncology
Precision oncology is a modern way of treating cancer that looks closely at the unique genetic changes in cancer cells driving their growth. Using advanced molecular profiling tests such as comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP), whole genome sequencing (WGS) and immunohistochemistry (IHC), these changes – known as biomarkers – are identified. Doctors can then match patients to precision treatments most likely to work for them, based on the specific biomarkers in their cancer. Omico provides free access to CGP and matching to treatments or trials, made possible through collaboration with the government and our national partners.

Precision Oncology Screening Platform Enabling Clinical Trials (PrOSPeCT)

  • Omico’s PrOSPeCT is Australia’s largest precision oncology initiative, providing equitable, free access to comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) to Australians with advanced, incurable or poor prognosis cancers, regardless of where they live.
  • Through a nationally coordinated network, PrOSPeCT supports patient access to genomic profiling and identifies potential matches to biomarker-led clinical trials and targeted therapies across the country.
  • PrOSPeCT 1.0 (March 2023 – December 2025) provided 23,000 patients with free access to CGP and treatment matching. The initiative was enabled through public and private sector funding and partnerships totalling approximately AUD$185 million, including $61.2 million from the Australian Government
  • Patient access continues through PrOSPeCT 2.0 from January 2026, using the same nationally coordinated approach. Supported by Australian Government grants of $30.8 million and $71 million, PrOSPeCT is expected to support more than 25,000 additional patient referrals through to 2028/29.
  • PrOSPeCT builds on the success of Omico’s Molecular Screening and Therapeutics (MoST) study which recruited over 8,000 advanced cancer patients 2018-2023.
